Roulette Betting Systems - The Martingale System

The Martingale system is one of the most popular betting techniques around with novice players. It relies on a fairly simple concept. With every be you lose, you double the amount on your next bet until you win. The result will be that eventually, you'll profit by your initial bet. So if you started with a $10 bet, lost 4 times and won on your 5th, you'll be $10 closer to a BMW in the driveway.
There is however, a significant flaw with this system. I won't bore you with the math, but the more you play, the bigger the chance of losing too many times in a row for you to continue, due to a limit on the maximum bet, or because you just don't have enough money to keep on doubling on your bets.
If you play 150 rounds of roulette, there is a close to 80% chance that you will lose six times in row. Them more you play, the closer you get to a statistical certainty. Using the Martingale system you simply cannot afford to lose that many times in a row. Assuming we started with $10, losing 6 times in row will force us to place $640 on the table to recoup our loss and gain $10. Depending on casino policy, you'd have reached the table's maximum bet limit long ago. In general, tables with a $10 minimum bet, will max out at $500, making this system a risky choice.
Aside from the limit problems, this system is easily spotted. Once you've been marked as someone determined to beat the odds, your every move will be monitored. Keep in mind that casinos can throw you out on their sole discretion, meaning they won't have to explain anything to anyone when they throw you out.

So what about that Labouchère system?>>>
