Online Rummy - More Variation of An Instant Classic
Next, we have a variation called 'Tripoley'. Tripoley has some elements similar to traditional Rummy but is quite different. The game is intended for up to 9 players and requires a deck of cards without jokers, playing chips and specifically designed tripoley board.
The game is made up of 3 rounds, with each round based on a different game. The first round revolves around the game of hearts, the second is based on poker and the third is a rummy round.
In the first round players will place their chips on the different parts of the board. Cards are then dealt to the players including an extra hand with no player. Players are not aware of which cards these are. The players will then collect the chips based on which cards they got. Each card represents a different part of the board, and players will take the chips from the corresponding parts.
The second round revolves around the game of Poker. In this round each player will compile the best possible poker hand of 5 cards. Once the hands are compiled the players will begin a poker round with folds, raises, etc. The winner of the round will collect the pot.
The third round is last round of the game. When this round begins, all players will take their cards back from the Poker round. The round will begin as the winner of the last round will place his lowest card of a suit of his choice. The other player swill then in turn place their cards of the same suit in a sequential order. This part ends when there are no more cards due to the unknown hand or when an A is put down. The player that put down the last card will then put down the lowest card of a different suit. The winner in the end of the game is the player left with no cards.
In the end of the game, players may choose to play an extra round of poker to determine who will take the remaining chips on the board.
Next we have Canasta. This is one of the more well-known variations of Rummy. The game is intended for 2-6 players and the goal of the game is to reach 8500 points. The game is made up of rounds in which each player will perform 2 moves. First, the player will draw a card from either the deck or the discarded pile. If a player chooses to draw from the discarded pile, he must form a set with that card. The player will have to take all of the cards in discarded pile as well. The second move is to lay down a card that is of little use to the player.
During the game players will have to get rid of all of their cards with sets. A set can be from 3 cards all the way up to 7. A seven card set is called 'Canasta'.
When compared to other variations of the traditional Rummy game, the cards have different uses in Canasta. All of the cards excluding 2, 3 and Joker are called 'Natural' cards. The 2 card and the joker are wild cards, with a limit of 3 of these cards in every set. The 3 card is used in the end of the game to determine the point calculation.
Different types of sets have different names. A set made up entirely of natural cards is called a 'Natural Canasta', a set made up of wild cards is called a 'Wild Canasta' and a set made up of both natural and wild cards is called a 'Mixed Canasta'.
The game ends once one of the players has all of his cards in a set or when the are no more cards in the pile. Each player receives points based on the cards he has.
Last, we have Rummykub. Rummykub is played in the same way as traditional Rummy, but is played with tiles numbered 1-13 in 4 different colors and jokers (wild cards). In Rummykub players also have the option to take apart existing sets in favor of a more strategic gameplay.
Rummykub is intended to be played by 2-4 players. The main goal of the game is to reach 200 points. Points are accumulated based on how many sets a player can create from his tiles.
Jokers can be used instead of any of the other tiles in the game. If a round end with a joker in one of the players' hands, the player will be penalized by 30 points.
At the end of each round the points are calculated based on the cards each player has except for the round winner, who will get bonus points based on his opponent's penalty points. The first to reach 200 points is the winner of the game.
All in all, Rummy is one of the most popular games in the world. It has many variations that each one of them provides exciting new game-play elements in their own unique way.
