Online Poker - The American Angle

American online poker is one of the hottest forms of gambling on the internet. The virtual version of this card game has made such a splash online that everyone from teens to grandparents are opening online gambling accounts in order to learn and play this classic card game.

Poker used to be the mainstay of back-rooms and smoke-filled illegal gambling dens. However, poker slowly made its way out of the shadows into the mainstream where it is now heralded and not shunned by the general populace. Although poker is still considered illegal in many parts of the country, there are greater numbers of states that have deemed poker a game of skill rather than chance, making it legal to play, if not to gamble.

American online poker was simply the next evolution of the game that has caught the whole world by storm. With the World Series of Poker and other such vaulted competitions bringing the superstars of poker into people’s homes every year, it is no wonder that American online poker has become such a hot commodity and the gambling game of choice for so many unlikely gamblers. Even women are getting into the action in surprising numbers. Bolstered by the fame of such female poker celebrities as Annie Duke and Barbara Enright, American women are also showing a keen interest to learn poker both online and at local tournaments.

Despite repeated attempts by the American government to ban American online poker, they have yet to squash public enthusiasm for this game of skill and, if the game’s recent success is anything to go by, then it is only likely to grow bigger.
