Online Poker - Hold'em

The favorite variant of the straight poker game is Texas Hold’em. So, it comes as no surprise at all to discover that you can, at all of the biggest and more popular online poker websites, play a holdem game online.

Unlike stud or draw poker where each player has their own hand and plays individually, in a holdem game online or in a land-based casino each player must use their own two cards along with any combination of the five “community” cards to make the best hand possible. Holdem is, effectively, a community poker game rather than an individual game. Each player is competing against each other but must use three cards from the same grouping of cards.

Poker has always been a very popular card game, but holdem really got into the general psyche after the constant exposure the game had on television, in popular literature and even the internet; it is also thanks to such events as the World Series of Poker that made poker and holdem such trendy games to play. In the 2000s holdem officially replaced 7 card stud as the most commonly played game in casinos across the U.S.
In order to play a holdem game online you do not have to be a poker superstar. As long as you know the basics you can always join a site where novices can play for free until they are confident enough to start using real money. Holdem is a fun game once you get the hang of it. There is now a whole culture surrounding the game along with a slew of books pushing their own strategies for beating the odds and your opponents.
