Online Poker - How To Play Texas Hold'em
There are different versions of poker including the staples of five and seven-card stud. The most commonly played version of poker in American casinos used to be seven-card stud, but that is no longer the case. Today Texas Hold’em has taken over as the most popular and best loved poker game around. How to play holdem is actually quite simple. Texas hold’em is a community poker game where each player sitting at the table gets two cards called the “hole” or “pocket cards.” The rest of the cards are community cards that can be used by all the players at the table to make the best hand possible.
Once the two cards are dealt to all of the players sitting at the holdem table then the two players sitting to the left of the dealer will place a pre-determined amount of money on the table; this money is called the “blinds.” The blinds are simply there to start the game rolling. Once the blinds have been placed on the table then the player to the left of the blinds gets to bet and then there is one round of betting called the preflop.
Following the initial betting round, the dealer then discards the top card on the deck – this is done to prevent cheating. The dealer then flips over three cards. These cards are called the flop. Another round of betting follows the flop starting with the player to the left of the dealer. Once that betting round is over then the dealer again discards the top card and turns over another one – this one called the turn. Again a betting round follows and the dealer proceeds to the final card called the river.
After the river card has been played, then whoever is remaining in the game shows their hands and someone wins the round – and that is how to play holdem.
