Poker after Dark what a complete waste
I admit when I heard about the new series coming on NBC this past year I was pretty excited about it, but after watching on and off for the past few months, it has to be the most poorly put together poker program ever. I believe that it could be a lot better but NBC has no interest in putting together good programing.
Here are my problems
1. The commentater he is the most annoying person ever, seems to have below average knowledge of the game and really unecessary for most people watching. Really the only thing enjoyable about the show is the interatction between the players, who are all quite familiar with eachother and with him talking over em it kind of ruins the "celebrity watching factor".
2. It's a sit n go, same format every week with blinds slow enough to take a whole week, this was fun maybe once or twice, but come on put something better together, either bigger fields or cash games, you arent seeing any players on these shows playing there specialties, most players are cash games or tourney experts, how many players have you heard of that made there living in sitngo's/
3. It's been done better already, I'll admit pokersuperstars or whatever on Fox the blinds are too fast but, there setup is better as there is a whole tourney structure that makes each episode meaningful to the grand scheme of things in finishing higher equaling points. Also, the blinds are fast to make for better T.V. I mean the first couple of days can sometimes have only one elimination on poker after dark.

I saw season 1 and I liked it, I really like the fact that you see poker as it should be played, not some turbo tourney where the blinds force all-in pushes very early on. The line ups are fantastic and the table chat is good. Not sure if season 2 is considerably different, haven`t gotten round to watching that yet.

agreed
ya i liked the idea of the whole poker after dark theme, i agree though that nbc did not put the neccesary focus and determination into the show, causing it too lack in a lot of areas, and it to become just a mediocre show

Have to agree with allot of opinions here, Poker After Dark is just more B.S. programming meant to catch the latest "fad".
I'm not saying poker is a fad, but in NBC's eyes, that's all it is. They scrambled to get the rights to the Heads Up Championships, and saw this as an opportunity to catch a bit more of that key demographic (Males, 18-35).
The main problem for this show, it wasn't developed by anyone who really knows the game, or understands it, so we get what "appears" to be the exciting points of poker (top players gunning for all the cash in a No Limit Hold 'em tournament) the same as what made the WSOP explode in the late 90's until now.
And the best part, NBC is such a conservative network that not all of their affiliates are carrying it yet, and those that do are running interstitial programming before it to push it as late into the schedule as possible (like they did here in Omaha, heck, the TV guides didn't even realize this was happening until a month or so later, kept checking at it's scheduled time and it wasn't on yet, had to wait out some crappy Byron Allen show).
Until some producer figures out that poker is about more than big money, top pro's or celebs, and hold 'em, we're stuck having to flip between these obnoxious farces and the info-mercials they usually are up against.

Poker on the tube
Your right, the tube is now so flooded with poker shows that one is trying to out do the other. Some are just outright boring. With virtually the same players available to play on TV, if they would possibly let new faces on with different styles of play so one would'nt no what to expect. This may make it a little more interesting. However i think that viewers should turn it off. No viewers, no advertising revenue. And thats what is about in a nutshell. Only watch what you like. I do.
