Default Peter Eastgate wins the WSOP Main Event in 2008

Hey wassers,

I was informed that Peter Eastgate won the Main Event.
His opponent was a Russian poker player, Ivan Demidov. He played very agressive and Peter Eastgate noticed it. He slow played a few key hands and got the chip lead.

Last hand:
Blinds: 500,000/1,000,000
Ante: 150,000

Flop: 4 K 3
Turn: 2
River: 7

Ivan Demidov moved all in post-river with 20 million chips (20,000,000 ->seems to be bigger with numbers lol)
Peter Eastgate called. (he had about 100 million - tremendous chiplead)

This historical moment was followed by the showdown.
Demidov: 4 2 (2 pairs)
Eastgate: A 5 (straight)

Notice: Demidov bet post-flop and Eastgate called with a gut-shot straight draw.

Congrats to the new World Series Of Poker Champion!

He BECAME THE YOUNGEST POKER PLAYER WHO EVER WON THE MAIN EVENT! The previous record holder was Phil Hellmuth.

Phil Hellmuth won the main event when he was 24.
Peter Eastgate is 22.

I think the two best players made it to HU. What was a shame was the new TV format as well as the delay in playing Final Table. Was nice for 9 players they got to make some side money but really took away from the game.
I liked it better when FT was on pay per view and you could see the entire thing. ESPN cut it to shreds and just showed "Highlight Hands".
I think they showed like 5 HU hands.
What was surprising was how poor alot of the play was, the guy who started as chipleader had to hit an AQ vs QQ to avoid finishing like 6th or 7th. There was an extreme lack of patience by alot of the players, I only know most of this from following the hands online.
I hope they eventually see the light and go back to the old format.

Oh I forgot lol. Demidov as it turns out appears to be a monster player, have seen him in several tournaments since main event. I believe he finished 3rd in Euro Main Event which was won by John Juanda.

Umm...The WSOPE wasn't after the main event, it was in october. Also he has done nothing HUGE since the ME, he just went on a rush in july-december

Oh and also, I think you are forgetting Chino, he is a better player than them both.

I do agree demidov played well on the day though

The Euro Main event did take place after the US Main event, it was the FT of US Main event that came later on. Euro was Oct 2, US Nov 9th.

He was 3rd in Euro 664,781
2nd US Main Event 5,790,024
11th Event 44 2008 39,854
Seems to have the respect of the top pros pretty quickly from what I have read and seen. Negraneu ,Hellmuth etc.

Chino does seem to have a table presence.
