Default poker books written by unprofessional poker players

What do you think about poker books written by unprofessional poker players by Ed Miller, Alan Schoonmaker, Jeff Hwang etc Is it worth to read?

i would say not to read a book by someone who isn't a pro. there are better books out there. on the other hand there is a company called susquahana international in philadelphia that have geniuses working for them, they sometimes buy them into poker events, one of the guys named william chen won two bracelets at the wsop. it was two or three years ago. he wrote a book about the mathematical aspects of poker, so i guess anything you read won't hurt.

Default Haven't read

I haven't read any books by a non-professional, but if you have the choice to learn from someone who plays poker to put food on the table and has done quite well at it, or someone who plays recreationally it seems like the obvious choice would be to read the pro's book. I really like Negreanu's work, and I've read a little bit of Sklansky and Hellmuth's stuff, to see the various approaches that work for some of the top professionals.
cheers,
Chad

All these players you mentioned are pros, not known from TV but they are all very good players. Jeff Hwang is an awesome Omaha player...

Alan Schoonmaker books are more about the psychology of poker players. They really are not strategy books.

I studied the Alan Schoonmaker book years ago.

It is outstanding.
