Live Poker tells to watch for
I played a lot of poker on my vacation and I had been working out a tell for live games before I went, and tested it a bit in a couple games and a two day tourney. First the tell, then the logic.
The tell: when a player is betting, watch the chip combinations they use to call a bet. If they use a lot of the smaller chip demoninations to count up to the call amount, then they have a weak hand or are chasing. If they use the big chips, then they may have some strength.
The logic: if a player expects he may lose, then they tend to clean up the house a bit with their chip stack, putting out the smaller denominations as "giveaways" preserving the big denominations. A player expecting a win will not do this as a rule.
I observed this a few times and it paid off in a few hands where I was in the pot. Watch for it when you play and let me know what you think.
