Arrow How to handle yourself if you are on tilt?

Hmm... You must have had a day when you won some money in a cash game but you stayed and lost your money. If you haven't it's a great example what you shouldn't do in a situtation like that.
I sat down at a heads up table and I won some money as I mentioned before. But I stayed a bit more and lost my money against ridiculous hands. i admit i lose. After that i felt that I should play somewhere else. Hmm.. a sit&go. Good Idea! Well, my opponent comeback from 100 chips and pushed me down to the dust. What shall I do now? I know I should relax but i can't. I'm nervous about my play.

My opinion is everyone should stop playing if you're just chasing the money. I like poker and I really enjoy playing.

Well... when I am playing for fun, but with real money, but just for fun, I usually win in Ring Games, SnG and Tourneys I get to the money.

... but when I have a bad beat or lose some money on ring games and try to win some cash fast, because I am on tilt, most times I try to get the money back from the player who took it from me... and thats the worst mistake... we need to learn to let it go and keep on.

Since some time ago when that happens to me I see next hand and then sitout while I go and make a coffee, lol, the coffee relaxes me and then I am back to the game again.

Why do I wait for next hand... because I still have the believe that after a badbeat usually I get a big hand... not sure if it has something to do with the poker software or sites, but there are many times this happens.

Its time for a break and read up on poker again.Make a fresh start and figure out where ya messed up and dont do that again. After a break and some reading, your confidence will be back up.It helps me.Plus dont play until you are ready,if I dont feel good,my poker play is down, wait until you are ready.

Yes, basically when you are down, play less. When you are up, play more. It's the golden rule of poker.

Whose golden rule is this? I'd suggest there are more important considerations than whether you're up or down. You should play more in situations where your EV is positive, and less or even not at all when it's negative. This takes into account a combination of factors including but not limited to the overall level of the opponents, the presence or absence of fish who are likely to give away their chips or money, and how well or poorly you happen to be playing at that time.

That's my biggest problem on poker, I can't control myself most of times. When I'm on tilt, I close all poker rooms and don't play anymore until I be calm again. I also try to do something else like reading a book or watch tv, everything to be far away from the computer.

The meaning of this rule is that most people tend to play more poker and play fast when they are down or losing. I am sure everyone has had the feeling or said to themselves, "If I can make $30 I am even for the day and I am done." Well this is the worst thing to do. If you are down and it is because of a "bad beat" or your head isn't perfect, DON'T PLAY TO WIN THE $$ BACK. Take a break and play later when you are over it.

On the other hand, when you are playing great and you are getting the cards, play more than usual to try to maximize your winnings.

Dr. Terppa, is in ~ lol.

How would a person explain that to their employer... "Excuse me I won't be in the office today ~ as I am on tilt and must have sex/masturbate, per Dr. Terppa... I just can't see myself pulling that one off and I hope tilt doesn't get to the degree with you where you do pull yours off

rotflmfao! that tickled me lol

When I first deposited money around a year ago, I used to have this really bad habit of switching to blackjack to try and win my money back when I lost (which was pretty much every day), admittedly I didn't really know what tilt was back then, and ended up completely skint a few times. Now I either sit out for a bit or switch the PC off altogether. It's not like poker isn't gonna be there tomorrow lol.
