Cool Curiosities from the WSOP ...

>>> event #12, $1.500 Limit Holdem

But the biggest sideshow at the final table may have been third-place finisher Vinny Vinh. After making headlines in 2007 for failing to show up for two Day 2 restarts Vinh was back at it again. He showed up nearly 45 minutes late for the Day 3 restart and then disappeared again later in the night only to re-appear and play four consecutive hands blind. Despite his erratic behavior, Vinh earned $99,099.

Jan von Halle..."I'm Out? How?"

2-7 Triple Draw: After the second draw in 2-7 triple draw, Jan von Halle flipped his hand over and showed the 3-4-5-6-7. Johnny Chan saw this and bet to put von Halle all in. Von Halle was confused as he didn't realize there was another betting round. He called anyway and couldn't quite understand why the pot was shipped to the two-time Main Event champion Chan. Von Halle must not have realized that straights count against you in 2-7 triple draw and was eliminated because of his mistake. Chan took the pot with a eight low."

but he Jan von Halle is even more famous for his "check-behind" with stonecold nuts on the river against kathy Liebert ... he had KJ off and flop came AKQ of hearts - both checked and turn came the 10 of hearts ... both checked again coz von Halle thought his straight was no good against every heart from Liebert ... river was blank and both checked again, Liebert first and afterwards von Halle - both turned over their cards and he actually had the Jack of Hearts lol ... check-behind with a Royal Flush at the WSOP ...

few players jumped out of their seats and called the floorman as this could have been collussion, the floorman had a smile on his face when he gave him a penalty lol ... brave boy

there is an official rule in tournament poker that ur not allowed to check behind with the stonecold nuts to avoid collussion

von Halle said later on regarding that hand: I didnt want to look at my cards again because I didnt want to give tells

no comment

by the way, that was in event #2 and "just" $10.000 Buy in and later on, Kathy Liebert took out the demoralised von Halle and came 3rd in the tournament lol

Jan(50outs) has posted in a german Forum about his check-behind Royal Flush. He thought he had to black cards and was very afraid of the fourth flush on the board. He didn't checked his cards again because he thought this would be a sign of weakness.

He flipped over his cards by announcing the straight and was stunnend its the Jack of hearts.

He was target of jokes the whole tournament. ("You fold? Did you check for Royal Flush?" oder: "Joe, you might consider checking behind and trap me!")

I would have checked my cards for the royal flush. I don't care if it makes me look weak. I could have used that to my advantage as well.

Sounds to me like this was a player who plays alot online and not live.

Glad it wasn't me that is all I can say LOL.

If looking at your hole cards make you look weak, so i guess i'm a very weak player. i'm always looking at my hole cards, couple time in a hand.
I don't think it's a sign for weakness, you can bluff it like that "showing weak side", but you have a monster hand.
The other players "read" you while looking at your face, hands, and legs... to see if you have any signs that turns you in, while looking again on your cards.
