Is Merger's Summerchamps Grand Finale the 1st of its kind

Right I have been giving this a bit of thought,

I have been playing in the Merger networks Summer championship 08 via Wass Poker. I havent done to badly out of it, made final tables in 3 of the games with 5th, 4th and runner-up all to my name, so I have had a good blast this season.

Now onto my point in question, tonight (05/07) for all those reading this in the future after the game, is the Grand Finale - Tournament of Champions, where the top 250 players over the course of the month get to fight it out to win a share of $15,000, which aint too shabby. Unlike many freeroll however this one is what I am starting to think is completely unique except for what you might see on tv games.

Depending on where you finished in the top 250 will determine your STARTING CHIP STACK, so if you finished 1st you get what it appears to be 6100 chips, me in 89ish am starting with 2900 odd, while 250 is starting around the 1000 chips mark.

Has anything like this ever happened on any of the other networks as I think it is peach of a way to play this type of game which has the unique chip stack formula for the Final game which people have attempted to enter.

Thought I would share this with people as it definitely has gotten my interest for something new and innovative and hopefully it will catch on for this type of game format, maybe the likes of FT and Stars, will be thinking of taking it on as a TOC game with unique starting stacks after each of their series that they run every couple of months comes to their ends.

I haven't seen it online before, I am sure I have seen it on one of the uk tv tournaments, I think it was the one that just finished were Andy black had his first ever tournament win.

As for tonights game there are only 227 regged at the mo' so don't know if chip stacks will change if the other 23 register.

First place is starting with 6262 chips and last place has 1207. Dogma hs a nice starting stack of 2949 compared to my lowley stack of 1255, but I can't complain as I only sneaked in to the freeroll by hitting position 242

Your starting stack is half the points earnt in the table. I believe..

Purple lounge do a $20k freeroll each month with your starting stack depending on the rake you brought in on the tables for the previous month. SO you could start with between 1000 chips of 10,000. The good thing about it is most of the field is general sit out so even starting with 1000 chips you can quickly and easily build it up.

Well it is a couple of days after this game and well I didnt do too bad out of it. After starting on 2900 ish, my chip stack went down to 1800, before i made it to 3200 after the 1st hour. In the 2nd hour I started to hit quite a few monster hands and at one point was upto 8500, only to get in a race and go back to 3400 chips, however in my bb I got 77 and the guy that I lost my previous race to was in the button and raised, so I went all in and he called to show AJ, board misses both of us and I win and am back upto 7400 after the 2nd hour.
2 hours later and I have made it into the money and sitting on 16K in my bb I have been raised by a chip leader who has 90K for the last 3 rounds, so with 66 I go all in, he calls and shows 99, no help and I am out 14th and with $150 to my name. The game itself was of a really good standard, with loads of different styles being played from the cautious to the mad all inners all due to the different chip stacks. I had a blast and I hope I can take part in the next one when it happens.

Yeah overall throughout the series of tournies I done well and made a decent amount of money out of all it, making myself about $1K in winnings, so I was more than pleased with myself lol
