I used poker stars when i stated, they have tonnes of players and always have something to play.

Personally I don't like huge fields of players as with PokerStars, FullTilt and the bigger sites so I look for fields of 400- 1000 players when playing tourneys, I'm talking buy ins not free rolls, so I play sites like Cake and 32Red and found them to be very profitable.

It depend of your skill and what you play (mtt,sng,cash) and buyin (buyin, freeroll). I'm not very like ftp and pokerstars cause too many people in tournaments.
