United dominate PFA awards
Ronaldo looking to complete the hat-trick
Manchester United players dominate the nominees to be crowned PFA Players' Player of the Year, with five of the six contenders hailing from the current Premier League leaders.
Edwin van der Sar, Nemanja Vidic, Rio Ferdinand, Ryan Giggs and last year's winner Cristiano Ronaldo are in the hunt for the prize, with Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard representing the rest of the Premier League.
United also provide two of the candidates for the PFA Young Player of the Year honour in Jonny Evans and Rafael da Silva, with Aston Villa duo Gabriel Agbonlahor and Ashley Young, Manchester City midfielder Stephen Ireland and Tottenham winger Aaron Lennon the competition.
Dutch veteran Van der Sar is looking to become the first goalkeeper in over 30 years to win the award after setting a record for minutes without conceding a league goal earlier this season.
He has been ably protected by central defensive duo Ferdinand and Vidic, with the Serbian powerhouse tipped by many to take the prize.
However, the evergreen Giggs has been mooted as a possible sentimental vote, with the Welshman yet to add the senior award to the two Young Player of the Year accolades he collected in the early 1990s.
Portuguese ace Ronaldo may not have hit the heights of last season, but he is still the joint-top scorer in the Premier League and is chasing a hat-trick of Player of the Year awards.
In the Young Player category, Evans and Rafael are aiming to become the fourth United player to win the award in the past five years.
Evans has been more than an able understudy to Ferdinand and Vidic in the centre of defence this season, while swashbuckling full-back Rafael has also caught the eye.

WOW not quite sure how that happened. Hope giggs doesnt get it because that will just make a mockery of the awards and the same with ronaldo really because he hasnt really done shit this season.
Would be nice to see van der sar maybe get it. Vidic is also another big contender i would imagine. Gerrard hasnt really done much either. Its easy to look good when you play with a bunch of muppets lol
I think Young or ireland will get young player as they have both been outstanding all season.
Again not really sure how evans and da silva have got in there because they dont play regular enough, but well done to them..
Peace

What I cant understand is how the hell Ferdinand got onto the short list . He's very fortunate to play with the best two centre halfs in the country Vidic whilst playing for Utd and Terry whilst with England. And if Woodgate hadn't been injury prone all his career Rio would have hardly played for England . PFA Player of the year no way.... Vidic gets my vote by a mile

Ferdinand seems to be the rock behind the two but gets little recgintion for what he does, but it is a surprise that he got nominated.
I think Stephen Ireland will get young player of the year. now if he would just swallow his pride and make himself available agai for Ireland.

Sorry thats nonsense Rio has made Vidic look much better than he is just like Carra does with Skrtel, Vidic has looked dodgy as hell ever since Rio got injured and just look how bad Skrtel was against Ingerlund without Carra alongside him.
To get back on topic, this is the mockery that the PFA awards are, being voted for in February, they should be done at the end of the season when it can be judged on the whole season not a few months, as for the nominees its nonsense Giggs has been good for Utd during their bumpy patch but hasnt done enough or played enough for a nomination and Ronaldo has been shocking for most of the season. How Lampard, who I have always said is overrated, isnt in there I have no clue he has kept Chelsea going all season when the rest of their team has been poor. Personally Gerrard should win cos as an individual hes done more for his team than any of them.

Tonight's game shows why Rio was nominated.
Have to agree with Blacksun that bit silly that the voting is done so eakry in the season. It robbed Roy Keane many of an award.

Carragher makes Skirtel look good dont make me laugh did you not see Tuesday's game and thats just one instance of many. Never ceases to amaze me how Liverpool fans overrate Carragher he was an average prem league player at his best (which he is now past) its not a coincidence EVERY England manager during his career has overlooked him apart from when several other players are out
