Shopping for new VZW phone, Opinions?
Hey wassers, my contracts up and I'm going to renew with Verizon and want a new phone, I'm wondering if anyone has any opinions, testimonials, suggestions?
I have the Motorola Razr, and it was OK, performed nice enough, just the features are pretty basic for functionality.
I'm looking at the LG Decoy or Dare, the Motorola Z6c, and the Samsung Sway. Anyone offer up any testimonials?
I sldo browsed smartphones, but their size is a turn-off, I like pocketable pieces.
The big things I want/like are bluetooth with more than just earpiece feature (import/export files with ease), decent MP3 player, decent camera/video (shots that don't look like it was a cameraphone if possible), and durability with decent battery life.
I also am looking at touch-screens, do they hold up well if kept in pockets allot? Do they click accidentally in your pocket?
Qwerty is not a big deal to me, but it is nice. I know I hate the Motorola touchpads, the keypad is not individual pieces, so I get allot of mis-clicks.

Because of work I have an iPhone (in my opinion definitely not worth the money) we also have approx 20 phones through verizon / 5 phones through AT & T and my boys both have verizon phones. In the years I have been here I would guess easily 100 different phones have been purchased, used, repaired & replaced. I do know the lg phones are the most durable (for us) and we have had the least amount of issues with them, we try and stick with those. It seems like if someone decides to go out on a limb & try a different brand they always end up deciding to go back to an lg.
Something that might be worth looking into for some... if your employer utilizes verizon for business you can receive an employee discount on personal lines (I think its either 7 or 10%) ~ which I do take advantage of for the boys' lines. It's a small savings but they offer it so I jumped on it. I know this is offered in the states.

Well im also gonna jump in here also , as I could use a lil advice. I recently left Sprint and have been searching for a new carrier. I have looked at Alltel..At&t..and Verizon. Would love feedback on ppl who have these carriers...specifically Verizon and At&t.
Alltel is ok ..my fathers company uses them for business and seems ok, im just not impressed with their phone selection. I was looking at the LG scoop, mainly for the qwerty and the pretty colors lol, but heard its pretty much a crap phone.
Through verizon..I like the LG dare and the Chocolate phones..but again dont know that much about the service.
Right now Im leaning towards At&t..as everything in our house is through them and I really really like the LG shine. I had a Motorola Razr before and am familiar with it...and when you slide open the LG shine the keypad resembles the Razr which sucks for texting on..but am used to it.
Corey has a smart phone..the Treo..he needs it for work..and I fkin hate it lol. It is the biggest pain in the ass. He whips right through using it though. The only thing he hates is the bulk of the phone. But i have to admit..I do like the look of the blackberry as my sister has one and loves it. I guess it all depends on how much you need the functions.

I had the trio as well and do prefer the iPhone to it ~ it was like carrying a garbage can with me ~ that's one big bulky bastard that's for sure ~ but with touch they all seen to be getting bigger.
Have AT & T & Verizon. For where I live... I think the coverage is more stable on the Verizon network. I know there are plenty of times my phone won't come in, but the boys both have signal. We travel North a bit and it's remote, but the boys stay connected a greater distance where as my AT & T is unable to. In a metro area I don't think this would be an issue though.
For what its worth ~ the kids have all said they do not like the chocolates ( we have not had one personally, both right now are using the Venus). Have heard them both say they do like the Dare.
Have heard several I know mention Verizon is coming out right directly with the phone they feel is comparable to the iPhone ~ it's supposed to be the bees knees and know of 3 waiting for its release to upgrade. I think its a Blackberry as well which you mentioned you like. I do believe if it hasn't been released it is due any day.
If you decide to go with Verizon they offer a free backup assistant so that you don't lose your contacts if phone is lost or broken. I would pick out what you think you like, load it up & back everything up. From that point you can return the phone for any reason for 14 days or 1 month (cannot remember) try another one and use back up assistant to load in all your contacts. A person usually knows within a few days or so if they like the phone ~ if they don't like it at all that's pretty immediate. I would also have to think the other carries offer something similar ~ but can't say for certain.

Thanks Dori. We dont travel too much ..if anything its in the tri county area or West Virginia. And thats usually where the problem is. No service in Hillbilly Hell lol.
I was wondering about how good the service area was and surprised that your at&t isnt that wonderful since they aquired cingular and cellular one. Youd think it would be top notch lol. I have heard that Verizon will be merging with alltel which could be good if they incorporate the my circle thing too. And least the phone selection would be better lol.
Im in no hurry to jump into anything so have the time to wait..as it has been quiet and nice without a cellphone lol..and if i really need it..i take coreys.
I am quite interested in seeing that new phone tho..and yes your right it is a blackberry, the blackberry storm i think? And im pretty sure it is do out this week..so may be worth checking into as I heard great things about it also.
Thanks for the feedback!

Hey Msma,
One of the biggest reasons I'm staying with Verizon is their coverage, they're the best I've ever had. I've had almost every one of the big carriers at one point or another and for coverage and service, Verizon wins, though I think I do pay a bit more for it.
Yeah, they don't offer a wide variety of phones, as allot of what people are recomending isn't available, LOL. But they have enough to fill what you really need, maybe not exactly what you want.
But now I am focusing on the LG phones, as everyone is leaning that way.
So, I've also added the EnV, the Voyager, and and Venus to my "want a review" list. It looks like the Venus is going to be a bit dated before the contract would run out/renewal bonuses kick in, so it's going to be the cheap option if I may want to wait on something else. As for the Chocolate, I hear it's basically a MP3 player that can make calls, so it's out.
So, tell me anything you can on these wassers...
LG Decoy
LG Dare
LG Voyager
LG EnV
LG Venus
or if you have insight on the Blackberry Storm, it launches tomorrow here in the US, and yes, it looks pretty freakin' sweet. So any info on what you thought of Blackberry phones would be helpful.
