Legal age for live play poker in the UK

Forgive me for one being such a stranger as work has been running me rampid, anyhow I had a question about the legal age to play poker in the Uk as I am sorta un-informed on the subject.

Some say it is 18 others say 16 I was confused cuz I never been to the good old United kingdom.

Please fill the clown in.

You have to be 18 to gamble in any way shape or form apart from the lottery which is 16.

I figured that 18 was the legal age;however, the thing that kinda threw mw was that sometimes I have seen some pretty young looking players win sometimes over in the good old uk.
The legal age would be less than 21 that might explain the confusion.
