Just remembered i have both in original but i hope that i can find them again. LOL
Really funny, ´cause two days ago i thought about music i listened many years ago and i bought a Die Ärzte CD yesterday to bring up the old moods and than i found your thread today. Fantastic that you started this thread.
i was never a huge punk fan growing up, but i'm starting to get interested more and more.. mainly because the rock scene isnt that great anymore...
punk type bands i like:
THE OFFSPRING
DROPKICK MURPHYS
THE GENERATORS
SOCIAL DISTORTION
and anything else that has a nice fast pace AND has a good ryhthym + good vocals and not screaming..
I quite like Dropkick Murphys, I think they are a breath of fresh air and something different, quite unique in style really. Offspring has some good stuff.
When it comes to rythm and the screaming bit, the best anticlimax to your point here is one of or maybe the biggest punk band of all time; Sex Pistols. I think Johnny Rotten has an amazing voice, some might see it as screaming, but I see it as him giving it his all with the voice his got, and there's others in the same booth, like Charlie Harper.
Also for a band as big as the Sex Pistols in the punk genre, a music genre which is known for fast in tempo, the Sex Pistols are quite slow tempoed, if you listen to them.
Hey how come I never noticed this thread?!? I was BIG into punk in the early 80's and being from California I've seen all the great California band many many times -
Circle Jerks
Dead Kennedys
Minor Threat
MDC
FEAR
Social Distortion
Black Flag
Flipper
and other non-California bands like DOA, GBH, JFA, Minor Threat, Die Kruezen.
And yes Bad Religion is too punk rock!
Ahhh, those were the good old days (that I was lucky to live through, lmao).. What is hilarious is now my teenager loves Death Metal and of course I find myself saying old lady stuff like "Ugggg how can you listen to that garbage?? It all sounds the same! All they do is scream and you can't understand them!" & "No, you can't wear that scary T-Shirt with devil skeleton thingie on it to the family party!" "When are you gonna get a haircut?"
I ended up selling my old record collection on EBAY to finance a Vegas trip, lol... I got $80 each for a couple of old 45s!
Some great names there, always liked The Clash, Iggy Pop, Ramones, Stranglers to name but a few.
Liked Sham 69 at the start too until they appeared on a kids tv show and totally blew their credibility, couldn't listen to their songs without laughing after that
