quitting

My grandmother quit in her 70's without a problem. I on the other hand have had a problem trying to... but in being totally honest up until the last couple of months I would say that I wanted to quit but never really meant it. (under those circumstances, a person knows they have no chance of quitting ~ just most likely saying it to make other happy and to get them off your back). Lately though I have decided I do want to quit. First and foremost for health reasons, secondly they are so very expensive. The latest craze here in the states is a new medicaine called chantrix (sp) it has really been the answer for some folks. Everyone I know though who has quite and quit for good has only don't it one way, their own willpower & desire. That's not to say folks aren't assisted with quitting aids, but everyone I know personally who used something to help eventually went back to puffing like a chimney. I would think I am going to need an aid though, so I am going with either the patch or the chantrix when I ake the huge leap.

Best of luck and I hope things are going well and your family is survivng it. I know a few days into at my house and neverves will be on edge and it could be ugly .

Well done hun!!! I too am now a non smoker - been off the patches for over a fortnight too and I am quite certain I have done the necessary and finally quit now!!

hey bubbz i was thinkin about quitting also. wondered what you thought of the patch and if you had tried anything else to quit. too many options with the patch, gum, pills.

good luck fish - I have previously quit with just will power - was hard and i lasted a good few years - i know idiotic to start again

the patches did help greatly with the craving for nicotine - but you still need to counteract the physical craving - ie - holding a cig, taking a drag etc - keep your hands busy and i found sipping cold water through a straw helped me. Have loads of nibbles near you - grapes, nuts etc - you mught put some weight on but u can deal with that after quitting!!

Only thing i didnt like with the patches is they burned when I first put them on (itchy and burning sensation) but I do have sensitive skin and also I couldnt keep them on overnight cos the dreams I had were nuts - sleep is affected too for the first few weeks.

All I can offer in good advice is this - If you really have your mind set that you want to quit then you will do it - good luck and I hope I have helped you in some way.
