Default quitting

I aint going nowhere!

Im actually quitting smoking tomorrow - 15th Jan - got 3 weeks supply of patches, joined a quitting discussion board (forum) told hubbs and the kids not to wind me up or they will die ..... seriously!!!

As I have started this health kick - healthy eating - excercise etc I need to give up the fags cos it is only hindering me!!

Has any of you managed to quit and stay quit??

I say stay quit cos I did give it up for 4 years (1998 - 2002)

any encouragement appreciated and plz tell me some success stories

bubbs

PS - my future posts may need to come with a warning

WTG Hun, u wont regret it. I decided to quit when I woke up from getting my tumor removed 4 yrs ago come April. I woke up after the Op and the yuck feeling I had due to smoking wasnt nice, I struggled to breathe etc and that was enough for me..

Never smoked since

If u need someone to shout at I'm here Good Luck mate

I'm 27 years old and have been smoking since i was 11 years old.Let's just say by the time im 30 years old.I would have been smoking for 19 years more than one third of my life.

Not once have i quit after 14 times of trying.I would have to quit a lot of other things too.Things like playing online poker, playing video games,no more buying bongs, and prolly no more smoking weed either.Cold turkey on it all.

I just want to congrdulate those who have quit and can stay away. And wish you the best of luck to you bubbles.

P.S. whats the web address of that "discussion board" please.

Good Luck to you Bubbs. I think maybe you are trying to change too much all at once but I hope you stick at it and succeed in all. Joining the discussion board will surely help you and if not just scream and shout when you need too

Good luck on quitting and trying to stay off the cig's. As I have never smoked I dont have much advice in terms of what you feel as you go through the withdrawl symptoms. However there is a few things I have picked up from others that I know that have taken the quit option now.

My uncle was told to quit or he could be dead within a year if he continued so he quit which he has kept to, but he took up another addition and that was eating a lot more and as a result put a lot of weight on. That is one thing that seems to catch people out is that the cigs make people less hungry and when they stop the body craves a lot more food.
Waking up after a going to bed at 10:30 getting up after a good 8 hours sleep and feeling totally shit is another drawback - is much worse if trying to give up the alcohol too. Apparently they do get better after time.
Nicotine supplements to slowly ween yourself off might work or just going teetotal (each person is different so use different approaches if you feel the draw back getting too much).
It isnt something that is really mentioned much, but is essential - Try and keep your hands active and doing stuff - ironing (I like to iron so it aint sexist just for trish edit), playing on a wii console for 20 mins and anything that you can use your hand for..... Reason for this is that it trains your mind and hands not to rely on a cig, which is what you subconsciously had trained your mind and hand to rely on, so getting out of that habit is just as essential.
Finally remember what they put into cig's - Benzene - as a chemistry student this is one of the most toxic, harmful and carcinogenic substances in the lab, I am only able to handle it with gloves, lab coat and safety specs and it can only be opened in a controlled environment - yet they let people smoke and inhale the stuff when it is a cig - this along with at least 18 other seriously dangerous to human health compounds is contained in the cig - so why hurt yourself and your pocket with the price too when poker can give a better high, and low, but also give you money too.

Most of all good luck and hope all goes well.

Matt
