Good luck on quitting and trying to stay off the cig's. As I have never smoked I dont have much advice in terms of what you feel as you go through the withdrawl symptoms. However there is a few things I have picked up from others that I know that have taken the quit option now.
My uncle was told to quit or he could be dead within a year if he continued so he quit which he has kept to, but he took up another addition and that was eating a lot more and as a result put a lot of weight on. That is one thing that seems to catch people out is that the cigs make people less hungry and when they stop the body craves a lot more food.
Waking up after a going to bed at 10:30 getting up after a good 8 hours sleep and feeling totally shit is another drawback - is much worse if trying to give up the alcohol too. Apparently they do get better after time.
Nicotine supplements to slowly ween yourself off might work or just going teetotal (each person is different so use different approaches if you feel the draw back getting too much).
It isnt something that is really mentioned much, but is essential - Try and keep your hands active and doing stuff - ironing (I like to iron so it aint sexist

just for trish edit), playing on a wii console for 20 mins and anything that you can use your hand for..... Reason for this is that it trains your mind and hands not to rely on a cig, which is what you subconsciously had trained your mind and hand to rely on, so getting out of that habit is just as essential.
Finally remember what they put into cig's - Benzene - as a chemistry student this is one of the most toxic, harmful and carcinogenic substances in the lab, I am only able to handle it with gloves, lab coat and safety specs and it can only be opened in a controlled environment - yet they let people smoke and inhale the stuff when it is a cig - this along with at least 18 other seriously dangerous to human health compounds is contained in the cig - so why hurt yourself and your pocket with the price too when poker can give a better high, and low, but also give you money too.
Most of all good luck and hope all goes well.
