General rule ... never show

Exceptions:

Show when it will confuse your opponents as to what cards you are playing/betting/raising

Show when you aren't getting action, and you think it will entice future calls

Heads up --- I show a lot more heads up. Heads up is such a mind game as opposed to a card game. If I feel it will give me an advantage by misdirecting my opponent, I'll show.

See Ya On The Felt !

It's good to show your cards sometimes to show your opponents that you are not easy to read.

The problem comes when you are playing cash games in a lot of tables... there's not time for such things.

Because of this I always muck the hands, and only choose to show them sometimes in tournaments, in which case I make sure to show good and bad cards I have won in a 50-50, telling others at the table that I can have anything!
