Wink What are the best Poker books to read?

Hope this is the right spot to ask this question of what are the best books to read for poker?

I have read some but can not really get a handle on which one is the best. The way I play I try to go against stuff I did read because I feel allot of other people use the books as bibles.

Sure at live tables I look at the vein on a person's neck to see it bulge to help make decisions but on line I have not got any thing that is true blue.

So I am wondering if I have missed some thing out there?

Also thank you in advance for any information.s allot

Which books are best to read can depend on various factors and weightings thereof. For instance, if you're at or near the newbie level, you're probably best to read books that espouse relatively solid approaches; i.e. learn to play a solid game first.

As for going against what the books tell you as a general approach to playing, it's probably not a very good idea. One reason is that few players actually implement what they read very well - sometimes because they think they know better.

Depends on your level. If you are new to online poker I suggest Online Ace by Scott Fishman, KillPhil is also very interesting and has a different spin on tourney stategy for beginners.. For any level I suggest Harrington on HoldEm- they are great books!

I would have to say that any book from Sklansky is good and the super system books from Doyle as well as Phil Hellmuth.

I know not alot of people like him, but the fact of the matter is he has made alot of money in poker for a reason.

There is a reason why these players write these books (not only to make some extra cash) but for new players to learn through their experiences. Going against them does not seem wise to me either as was mentiond before not a lot of people follow the book as they fee they are smarter than the person who wrote it.

Good luck in fnding what you are looking for.

While I've yet to read Negreanu's book, I'd have to suspect it will be oriented toward his small ball style of play. If so, it won't necessarily be the best fit for everyone since it's based on using his strengths - which many of us simply don't have. For example, he likes to play more post-flop more than most online players, and he usually plays with deep stacks.
