Default What is the poker rule

Senerio..was playng live with the boys(every Thurs night)..we start of with 80 chips for 20.00 with the blinds starting at 2-4..about the 3rd hand in one m8 was down to his last 2 chips after calling the BB.. and sitting next to the dealer he put his last 2 chips in after the flop..next 4 out of 8 players called the two chips.the BB was going allin and said that the minium bet was 4 and the 4 players still owed 2 more chips..(so he would gain another 8 chips on the upcoming allin)...then the disscussion started...I wasn't in the hand but the other players stated that they were not betting but only calling and since the bettor was shy 2 chips of the min bet thats all they had to pay since none of them was (reopening the bid) but just calling....so what is the rule if you want to stay in the hand ..you must put in the min bet of 4 chips and have a side pot or do you just have to call the original 2 chips..as it turns out the BB went allin and took down the hand and said he got beat out 8 chips.. is the BB right or not...love to hear the actual rule..

I am assuming that the small blind has put in 2 chips
The big blind has put in 4 chips
The under the gun short stack puts in 2 chips.

If this is the case all players if they wish to call have to put in 4 chips because a bet of 4 chips has already been placed by the Big blind.

thats my thoughts anyway

Nick

I also would say minimum bet is 4 and side bet is 2 (+ amount of chips preflop)from each player because one guy went all in with only 2 chips left.

Reason: Blinds are 2/4 -> min. bet is 4 if they have enough chips.

my 2 cents

Günter

Wow! I had to read that 5 times to comprehend, lol! -- And I'm still not sure if I did. Hehe - thanks for making my brain work!
But what I think is (from what I recall from online play- I have never had this situation come up in live play) the 4 callers only had to call the 2 chips (they all opted not to raise) from the BB's allin after the flop. - But the BB was wrong in thinking he should have won more chips because when you're allin you abviously can never make back more chips (from each player) than what you put in.
Or... I could be completely wrong!

I have to agree even though he had only 2 chips he made a bet..therefore others must call the min blind which is 4 but their beef is they only have to call the allin which is only 2 chips..since they are calling and not making a bet...needless to say the dealer was going allin as well and wanted another 8 chips total from the players that called..which was 4 players after the orginal 2 chip allin...so what it comes down to is do they call the 2 chip allin or do they call the min bet of 4 chips which covers the 2 chip allin and creating a side pot ...I think online say for example the blinds are 1000-500 and a player goes allin with his last 300 aganist 2 other players in the hand only have to cover the 300 not make it 1000 because thats the blind amount ?? Is online different than live ???

Well, for sure before the flop you have to make the min bet of the BB, but I could swear that after the flop, you'd just only have to call that allin bet. - Think I have seen this done online lots of times - but maybe that's when there is only one caller of the allin.. We need an expert like Bizwzubi in here - but I haven't seen him around in a while
