well you can become successful at anything if you put your mind to it. i say if you play poker and your making a living off it and win decent money then keep playing it.

Does anyone remember the name of the profi (English guy) whose hair fell out and he lost his wife due to the stress of playing professional poker? He also lost his business due to the hours he spent at the tables...

Doesn't seem like an easy way to make money however good you may be!!! Must have nerves of steel!!!

Ya'll right when you say that there's a lot of people playing for living, i play a lot at the (spamlink removed), not for living, but that's my way to make some extra money... the thing about gambling is that u're making a bet, and it's possible for u to win or lose so it's kind of risky like ya'll said... but personally i would never consider to take it like a career cause i've won a lot playing online i think it's all about luck like Joe Cada dennis mentioned. He had luck cause not all the gamblers have had great winnings even if the have played for living all their lifes...

The degree of gamble involved depends on the games and levels one selects to play at, as well as the time frame under consideration. In the short term, be it a session, a week or even longer, variance often rears its head. Over the long term however, it doesn't take a huge +EV to make a living, especially when you factor in multi-tabling.

That said, not everyone has the psycho-emotional makeup to handle the ups and downs, which is a necessary quality to succeed. And I've seen a few people report that they quit because after a while, they just couldn't take the grind on a daily basis even though they were making enough to live on.

I remember this ...It was Simon Aces Trumper.

He had a successful business which he allowed to go under as he was always away playing poker. I can't post the link here but if u look on his blog page there is a chapter there on this period in his life.
