What do you think of Theo Walcott , this kid hasn played a game in the Prem scored a few goals in the championship and now hes gona play some part in the world cup , i myself think that this is a huge gamble taking him when there are other strikers who have a proven record in the Prem i know he will be hyped up alot and maybe he will produce what do you think?

Im split on this one.

I think Bent or Defoe should have been put in ahead of him due to their performances this season and the fact that they have proved themselves in the best league. But I wouldnt argue with Erikssons selection, purely because its HIS decision and although hes leaving anyway after the tournament ends, i think hes allowed a gamble and I think its the only gamble hes made (excluding James!!).

However, from the few clips I have seen and listening to the people who have seen him play he is a good player and whether he actually plays a game in the World Cup is doubtful anyway.

Put it this way, the question shouldnt be about Walcott, it should be why Hargreaves, Jenas and James are in the squad.

mmm ..i think its highly unlikely he will play...just along for the ride....not really a gamble as if rooney and owen are not fit then eriksson has players on standby..walcott will learn from this and if he gets 15 mins to run defences ragged the so be it ...almost like a 12th man in cricket..not expected to do much but can take part and learn...good luck to the lad...

I personally think that he is a great prospect, think of geoff hurst he was very young and only came in because of an injury he was pretty much unknown and now he is a true legend for his hat trick in a world cup final.

i agree with flibbles there are much better and proven strikers that he could of taken instead of walcott, i think its to much of a gamble.

I don't agree with him going to the world cup, as many other people have already commented, he isn't experienced enough and in my opinion there are better proven strikers who could of gone. However Wenger seems to have a knack at bringing on young players and he looked sharp in the recent B game when he came on as sub. I guess 1 advantage is that defenders will not know how to play against him and he looks quick too, which could be another advantage. Personally I think that Darren Bent should of been picked.
