Good for him I say, looking after his and his families future. LA Galaxy are dumb for paying him that much because I can't see him raising the profile of "Soccer" :?that much in America. For Beckham wise move cos his career in top class football seems to have ended so cash in while you have the chance.

Yer i agree good move for Beckham because of the money but he can now be sure hel never get in the England squad again. To be honest i dont ever think soccer in America will ever be as big as in europe andit will never be as big as other American sports either, so wot Beckham plans to do i dont know lol?

It is for the money, thats all its ever about unless you have a player moving to his hometown club in the twighlight of his career.

If Galaxy would have offered 20k a week he wouldnt be going. 400k is a joke for someone who has enough money to last 10 life times. Alls i can say is i hope he gives alot to charity.

hear listen dont knock a guy for getting a good deal.if your gaffers came to you and offer you a wage of nearly a million dollars a week you would too.i know america is a shit hole but the wages will compensatehe is one of a few and i mean a few footballers who try and put somthing back into football.the people paying his wages have obviously got more money than sense they are hoping he brings in the crowds like a jordan or shaq in basketball.as beckem has enough money to last a lifetime and more rolling in every hour why would this be a money ovehes still one of the best left sided players and at 31 is hardly past it.he will have gone to the us because he wouldnt want to take a step down in club size like a bolton or westham.and man utd liverpool and the other big european clubs dont want him.o therefor going to the usa he can say its this big challenge so it doesnt look so crapy.and if any1 does take the micky the wages are that big he can say you go back to earning your pitence lmao

Lol i like the last but very true, but i don't agree with the step down thing. in my opinon Bolton are a much bigger side than LA Galaxy, firstly they have been established for nearly 100 years whereas La Galaxy have only been around for about 10 years secondly Bolton are 1 of the top 6 clubs in england even if they do play awful football lol they means europe for them most seasons. Although LA Galaxy has the money i dont think it is yet as big as top half of the table clubs like Bolton who have double the capcity crowds in every week. But for sure he can turn round to any1 making fun of him about the money and put them in their place. oh and btw david beckham is a right sided player nota left sided player, dont know wether u meant that or not but thought id better correct u lol.

I couldn't wait for thisthread to get here, as I knew it would with all you footy crazies in here.

I heard about this contract and instantly thought of the last years of Pele, making a boatload of cash (a pittance in comparison to Beckhams' contract) off a woeful American Soccer League trying to raise football awareness over here. It didn't work then, and this most likely won't work now.

We've tried this with quite a few retiring European stars, and while we may slightly recognize the names, and maybe want to catch them in action, it won't be much more than a novelty and wear off quickly, again.

I've got to Imagine that it's a great fit for Beckham, besides the obscene amount of money, he wasn't much longer for the premiere European teams and I have to imagine that he won't mind the opportunities that relocating to Los Angeles and it's media networking will afford him, even if he is only here for the games.

I didn't hear the specifics on his contract, but I know that it was salary and endorsements, can't wait for the commercial barrage that should begin in about, oh, say two weeks to finish up production on the first advert.

Bully for you Beckham, a job well done. As for those corporate nit-wits trying to promote soccer in the U.S.A., try raising up and promoting a decent "home grown" sensation like we had with U.S. Womens team at the turn of the century. Until then, all we will have is a mild distraction for those rainy days when absolutely nothing else is on (MSL) or an overhyping of a relatively weak men's world cup team every four years (hopefully they will square things up and get to playing the game this next time). (of course, not myself personally, I got "UEFA", "premiereship", and "International Football" programmed into my TiVo's watch words, too bad I only get about 5 or 6 games at most in a week, all too often, none).
