I wouldn't normally reply to such an old thread but this one is something i know a little about.
Snooker is a game that requires so much dedication to suceed at any sort of good level it is almost unimaginable.
When i was playing at my best i was in the regionals and doing well but not great i was putting in at least 20 hours a week practise.
It is a game of such immense concentration and foward thinking you are never thinking about what to do next as that was already 3-4 shots ago in most cases sometimes less but generally.
The time i spent just going over and over the same routines on the practise table was out of this world even the simple things like break off shots were pratised time and time again (now that is a chore resetting the balls every shot)
But in the end it does pay off if you want it to, when i first started in a league there was 3 divisions and you had to start in number 3 and work up.
Well i won division 3 and the cup and the highest break and the singles, the following year i won the 2nd division and the cup and the highest break and singles (just).
The next year was to be one i would never forget no i didn't win the league i came 4th nor the cup (semi finals) nor the singles infact i didn't win anything that year apart from 1 match and that was when i beat Ali Carter 2-0 in a league match from that day on i didn't care if i won or lost i knew i had finally made it i could hold my own against the big boys (even if he was drunk --- ish )
But then it all went down hill and i lost my enthusiasm and didn't get out all close season to practise to cut a longer story short i played in the league for 4 games in division 2 i lost all but 1 and haven't picked my cue up since
