For me in order for something to be a sport it has to have co-ordinated body movements even darts and pool I would say is a sport.

But poker, backgammon etc. its just competitive gambling/gaming (including chess)

Sport involves some sort of physical exertion, even darts and snooker players have to walk around a fair amount.

It's a strategy game, no different to chess in a lot of ways. Even a Grandmaster with an IQ of 200 couldn't persuade me otherwise.

When it's in the Olympics you can say it is a sport, till then it's a cardgame for people who like to gamble and the lottery aspect of the game.

To me, "competitive gaming" seems to be the best category for poker. Yes it requires an understanding of the rules, skill, and in some instances, physical stamina, but it doesn't require face-to-face competition (can't play football online ) or peak physical abilities.

Having it classified as a sport won't change the government's mind about legalizing online poker. Otherwise, NORML would have labeled pot smoking a sport years ago !!
