New Jersey Nets team president Rod Thorn will take over as the team’sgeneral manager.
Thorn told the Bergen (N.J.) Record and The New York Daily News that thefranchise would combine the two positions instead of replacing ousted GM KikiVandeweghe.
New Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov said Wednesday that Vandeweghe, whosecontract expires June 30, would not be retained.
Thorn has been the Nets GM before and he’s done well holding both jobs.
In 2001, he traded Stephon Marbury(notes) to the Suns for Jason Kidd(notes), who led theNets to consecutive NBA finals appearances.

The Suns have to go back to the drawing board after their strategy to send two defenders at Kobe Bryant allowed Gasol to score 29 points (14 in the game-changing fourth quarter).

Amare Stoudemire, Suns
He scored 18 points and grabbed six rebounds, which is a decent night's work, but he needs to do a better job on the defensive end of slowing down the Lakers' big men.

LOS ANGELES -- The focus, the glare is all on him. Which he's embracing, not ducking. Maybe even enjoying a little bit after his unfortunate choice of a normally fortunate word to describe the contributions of Lakers forward Lamar Odom.
You see, in his seven years in the NBA, Amare Stoudemire has always been someone's running mate; never the lead dog. His name seems to be dangled as trade bait every February as a piece to be added to a contender, not a building block.

The biggest question in the NBA is not, "Who's going to win the championship?'' but rather, "Who's going to get LeBron James?" Speculation swirls daily, rumors fly regularly, but the fact is, no one (perhaps not even James) knows what city he'll call home next season. But there is speculation and then there's informed speculation; there's guessing and then there's educated guessing. So after speaking with several folks around the league, here are our top five likeliest destinations for LeBron. Despite Mark Cuban's open courting of LeBron, we purposely omitted sign-and-trade possibilities, because for the Cavaliers that's either the ultimate last resort or no option at all. In the unlikely event the Cavs open themselves up to a sign-and-trade, then Dallas, Houston and perhaps the Los Angeles Lakers and Portland Trail Blazers could enter the discussion. But the Cavs know there would be no way to bring back equal value in a sign-and-trade, and they'd kill their future cap flexibility in the process. With that in mind, here are the five likeliest destinations for LeBron. Sorry, Clippers fans, you didn't make the cut. As usual.
