2008 Live game number 2 - opinion thread
Ok everyone, nothing is set up for the second live game next year. Chumley has a game coming up in the middle of the year that I believe he will be working on setting up.
Usually our second tourney is set up around early September. Taking on board what some members have said about times of year affecting wether or not they can turn up, I want some opinions on this event. Don't just pick 1 weekend and say this is when we should have it. Try to give a good reason why you think a certain time would be better than early September. Do you think later in the year would be better. Take into consideration that this would move us closer to Christmas. Maybe a bit earlier in the year, bearing in mind this will move it closer to Chumleys game, and the February game, and the school summer holidays.
Also, where in the UK would you like to have the game. Take into account that we have used Grosvenor upto this point. They have always been quite good for us and if we need to use a different company it might make it more difficult. If we stay with Grosvenor then they need to have a casino in the area you'd like.
One more thing, please keep your posts relevant to the topic. If I have to start trawling through people saying hi to each other and going off topic it makes it harder to keep up with what you want. Then I will have to start using my "delete" button.

I would quite like to see the events take place in March and August. I know the kids are still on school holidays then but I am sure most people can find a babysitter for 2-3 days over that weekend. The weather is normally a bit warmer in August too. March is (obviously) 3 months after Christmas, which would give all of us a little more breathing space after the cost of Christmas has crippled most of us. I know this works out at just under 6 months apart but if for example the early game was the weekend of the 7th March and the later game the weekend of the 29th September then thats 25 weeks apart(so almost a 6 month gap). I know that it would cause me less stress personally if it was not so soon after Christmas.
From past conversations I understand that 1 of the main reasons for holding the Live events in the northern part of England is the cost factor. As a non driver I always have to use public transport or rely on someone giving me a lift so I am happy for them to take place in any venue that is willing to put up with us for a weekend as it probably works out cheaper to pay for the Travel (£12.50 by train to Newcastle from London\Stevenage or £20 petrol money to a willing driver)then it is to pay for a more expensive hotel\ B+B in the south of the Country.

grosvenor aren`t the only company interested in hosting a wass tourny. stanleys made some approaches to me a few months ago. also it appears that wass might outgrow grosvenors capability to host the increasing numbers of wassers coming to the games, looking at how many are going to newcastle. stanleys birmingham can seat over 400 players and it is further south than any tourny we`ve had before and easily reachable. the probs with grosvenor now are they lack room to host our games, 120 appearing to be the maximum. they also hold their own tournys e.g. the bluesquare ones. it might be best to ask members to find out how many players their local casino poker room can hold and report back to block

stanley was the bristol casino as well
i know that one was very small
but the staff there were excelent
tina ( tinalou ) done a superb job organising it
and the few regestration probs a few members had i managed to resolve on the phone b4 the day .
nothing was to much trouble for the stanley staff there.
but i have to admit at stoke i was unimpressed with the attitude of the floor manager when tinas purse got stolen and was found in the ladies toilet ..
they couldnt ( be bothered ) look at the video because we couldnt give them an exact time of when it was stolen - maybe just a quick look at the video might have found who done it ( or didnt they want the person to be found - thats just my opinion , ) .
they were ok but not as good as they could have been - considering the amount of money they took from all our members over the 2 days on poker - blackjack - roulette - drinks and meals ..
ps - i will travel to most places - but a lot of people are complaining about all games are up north ... so i think its only fair to try and bring a few down our way

I really feel I need to reply to this. I don't know what people class as up north, cos I keep hearing ALL the games are held up north. So a couple of examples. Using google maps as its easy enough and we all have access:
London - Liverpool = 3 hours 51 minutes
Newcastle - Liverpool = 3 hours 16 minutes
So people travelling from London to those 2 events travelled for 6 hours 41 minutes, both ways.
From Newcastle they travelled for 6 hours 45 minutes.
Now I do appreciate that not everyone is London and Newcastle. But taking London as South and Newcastle as North, could someone please explain to me how all the tournaments are held up north.

well think of how long it will/has taken us members that live down here in wales to get to stoke/newcastle respectively..
i can remember taking a coach to carlisle which isnt far from newcastle and that took way too long to get there
now i wouldnt mind attending in birmingham as its in between everywhere and not too much of a hassle to arrange travel to that area and also isnt going to put too much strain on an already strained wallet

I agree with you block. I think these have to be hosted where they are to close to quite a few members eg; Liverpool, Stoke and Newcastle all have members that are close to them...........I will if I can travel to all wass live events up or down the country.......The way see it is if someone is organising an event they can choose where it is as there is nothing stopping any of us from arranging a wass live tourney if we want to and I am sure that all would be well supported....So Jupite if you want one in Reading get oranising it............
Welshy you have to remember we also have members that come from Scotland a lot further for them.........
