Exactly! The location might change (online vs. brick-n-mortar), the players will change, and the cards will
definitely change.....but the math will always stay the same.
The object is to get your chips in the middle with the best cards, right? Well how do you do that, especially preflop? You figure the odds and hope they hold true.
Suppose it's the 1st hand of a tourney and you've got AA. You have no information about your opponents .... rock or ATM? fish or shark? Bluffer? ... you just don't know. But what you do know is that your aces are favored to win over any other hand your opponents may be holding, including the any-2 a-holes with 36o. If they get lucky, then they get lucky. It doesn't mean you didn't make the right move or that you should abandon the odds.
