Starting hand ranks
In poker, it is vital that you know the odds on the cards that you are holding from the off. There is no point playing cards if you don't know what the chances of winnning are!
For the purposes of this guide, we are going to assume you are playing Texas hold'em. 'All in' win percentages are based on going all in pre-flop with 3 callers.
Secondary Hands
These are good hands to hit, and the chances of someone holding better pre-flop are marginal. You should consider a good raise or re-raise pre-flop. If everyone folds, so be it. If you get callers, you need a favourable flop to stay as confident. If over cards, pairs, flush or straight draws come out, then you need to think about your play. You can either try and protect your cards with a big raise, or, if challenged, fold.
