Starting hand ranks
In poker, it is vital that you know the odds on the cards that you are holding from the off. There is no point playing cards if you don't know what the chances of winnning are!
For the purposes of this guide, we are going to assume you are playing Texas hold'em. 'All in' win percentages are based on going all in pre-flop with 3 callers.
Tertiary Hands
These hands are good to get, but can turn sour with a bad flop! You can be fairly confident of having the best hand pre-flop, so putting a raise out pre-flop should be a good starting point. Be wary of being caught by an over card (Ace) with Queen-King, or by two pair if just one Ace comes out on the board (IE someone calling with Ace and a low kicker who hits both).
